To tell someone that you don’t own a cellphone would immediately make you a social outcast. Well, that’s not true, but it may make you feel left out; especially if your friends have the latest “iPhone“. Of course, I am speaking to adults of “Generation Z”.
Needless to say, mobile phones are no longer used as such; but a portable computer used for accessing the internet, whether for social media or playing video games. Let’s be honest, not many people can say they read books or only listen to music on their phones.
Thirty six years ago, the technology used to make a first prototype portable cellphone had no idea that it would revolutionize the phone industry. This is perfectly portrayed in famous BBC show “Tomorrow’s World: Mobile Phone 13 September 1979 – BBC”
How often do you actually use your mobile phone to make a phone call? Talking to someone is the most efficient way to share information. I assure you it is not texting, or editing the status on social media. Don’t get me wrong, I think having access to information superhighway in palm of your hand is a great thing, but we should not call mobile phones-phones any longer. Mobile phone has evolved so much beyond it’s name that it should just be called a portable device.
Next time you wish to say hello to friends or family, give them a call and say “Hello”. It may feel awkward at first but person on the other line will appreciate you, so much more…
